Missing the Larger Story

By admin | May 29, 2008

Much has been made in the financial press about the difficult straits of the automobile industry while at the same time there has been an unexpected upsurge in the number of planned mergers and acquisitions.  To my knowledge, no first-rank investment newsletter has focused on the most significant story of all - the possible acquisition of Anheuser-Busch by a Belgian brewer.  This is of national significance, dwarfing even the massive capital inflows to Unites States banks from overseas deep pockets following the banks’ descent into great difficulties connected with the subprime mortgage meltdown.  The possible acquisition of the American Icon "Bud" tears at one’s patriotic heartstrings.  How is it possible even to conceive of the possibility that Bud might not be American-owned?  This must not be allowed to happen.  We cannot just stand (or sit) idly by while this very essence of Americana is allowed to fall into alien hands.  We must mount a campaign immediately, possibly even to marching on Washington (assume any members of Congress are there) in an all-out effort to convince our lawmakers to prevent such a national travesty from occurring.  We must keep "Bud" American to the core, at all costs.
