Four Minute Workouts - Really?
By admin | December 28, 2007
Lately there’s been a lot of buzz over Tabata intervals. These were invented by Dr. Tabata, a researcher in Tokyo, about ten years ago. Basically they consist of twenty seconds of very intense exercise followed by ten seconds of rest, for various time frames. Lately, a number of individuals in the fitness industry have started to promote four minute workouts, using the Tabata protocol. However, they use strength training or conditioning exercises, rather than the aerobic work that Tabata originally utilized. While I’ve done these workouts, and find that one four-minute session done with proper intensity can certain leave one feeling worked, promoting them as the only thing one has to do is misleading. You’ll either need to perform multiple four minute segments or add other types of exercises if you want to see any results. But "four minute workout" is pretty catchy, I have to admit.
