DNA Test for Forensic Evidence-Categorized
By admin | May 26, 2008
dna test for forensic evidence can be divided into groups: RFLP and PCR testing. RFLP testing requires availability of large amount of the DNA. This testing is not used on samples collected from crime scenes. The reason behind this is that the sample collected is of small amount as well as too old. Also, warm and moist conditions cause degradation of the DNA. DNA degradation makes RFLP testing impossible. PCR testing does not require large amount of DNA to carry out the test. This test can be carried out on partially degraded DNA. The drawback of PCR is its sensitivity to Contaminated DNA. This drawback makes PCR less reliable and thus RFLP is preferred.
