Different Types of Yoga

By admin | August 23, 2008

As a yoga teacher, I am always interested in learning about other types of yoga besides the style I teach, which is called Hatha. Many beginners are attracted to my classes because I tend to move slowly, giving people time to catch on. I am also learning a little about the Kundalini and Vinyasa styles, which rely on breathing techniques in combination with the different moves. These styles are definitely a little more intense and require some experience with yoga basics before jumping right in. Another style of yoga is called Iyengar. I have not tried this one, but from what I understand, it focuses on alignment of the body in the various poses. This practice encourages people to use different props, such as yoga blankets, to align their bodies correctly. The interesting thing is that yoga is so extensive; there is always something new to learn.
