Learning About Music Classic and Modern with the Albany Symphony Orchestra

The Albany Symphony Orchestra, since its inception, has placed a high value on choosing an innovative performance schedule. In addition to the classical music for which symphony orchestras are known, this orchestra makes a studied effort to branch out, performing the works of contemporary American performers, both very established and renowned composers and those who are just at the beginnings of their careers. They both perform live and record, working to expand the appeal of modern orchestral music.The orchestra is currently under the direction of David Alan Miller whose history with orchestras in Chicago, Philadelphia and many more locations has garnered him much acclaim and admiration. He has been the conductor since 1992 and has continued on the mission set forth by the orchestra’s founder, John F. Carabella, who established the orchestra in the 1930’s. Despite its depression-era founding, the Albany Symphony Orchestra became popular quickly after its inception and continues to enjoy a growing audience of classical music buffs and those new to the form, alike.
